Imagine a week in magical, exotic Bali!

Jungle adventures, swimming or lounging at one of the beautiful pools, amazing healthy food, daily movement classes (Pilates and Yoga), body treatments at the on-site spa, a fire ceremony, a cultural dinner, sacred temple tours, and a Balinese cooking class are just a few of the highlights of what this retreat has in store for you.

Open to all fitness and experience levels.

Think of this retreat as a fun way to move your body and supercharge your soul!

Something magical happens when you have the courage to leave your every day routine.  Travel to a beautiful new country. Try new things. Experience different cultures.  Meet new people.  My intention is to inspire and empower you to JUST DO IT!  Let this retreat be the excuse you might need to take a break- from work, from family, from "reality".  Everything is organized for you. All you have to do is get on a plane and get yourself to Bali!  Spend a few days and focus on YOU! Self-care, healthy living, adventure, friendships, and fun!

Our retreat venue is Soulshine Bali, a barefoot luxury resort dedicated to togetherness and the art of gathering people to share in the joy of wellness, movement, music, incredible food, and good vibes. Located in the heart of Bali, Soulshine is a jungle paradise- surrounded by rice terraces, ancient temples, and a beautiful river. Soulshine is also a working organic farm that provides the freshest food daily to their onsite restaurant.

A Typical Day on Retreat in Bali...

Wake up to breathtaking views of the lush jungle and rice fields from your Panorama Suite.  Experience a Pilates or Yoga class in the open-air studio followed by a delicious brunch at the Soulshine Restaurant.

Choose your activity of the day: surf, hike, bike, visit the monkey forest or the elephant sanctuary,  chill at the pool and play on the waterslide, visit a nearby white sand beach, get a massage or body treatment at the Soulshine Spa, or simply grab a book and relax in a hammock.

In the evenings, melt into another yummy movement class, and  then enjoy a delicious dinner at the Stay Human Restaurant on property or venture out to the nearby town of Ubud.

Location

Sara and Michael Franti’s property in Bali is the perfect spot to unwind and focus on your own well-being for a week.  Nestled into the rice fields and tropical landscape of the island, their resort is the perfect home base for exploring Ubud and its surroundings.  Besides spending plenty of time enjoying the pool, gorgeous spa, live entertainment, and assortment of classes we’ll be offering throughout the week on property; you can explore the nature of Ubud and its surroundings. Outside of the field trips we’ve got planned, you can take a bike ride through the rice fields, hike the incredible volcano to watch the sunrise, river raft, or take a trip to the beach.

Bali is a feast for the senses with almost daily ceremonies celebrating the cycle of life.  Incense burns through out the villages as the local balinese offer their prayers three times a day to please the Gods. Explore the thousand year old ancient rice fields, still carefully harvested today in the old traditions. Ubud is best known for its generations of artisans. Wood and stone carvers, silversmiths, painters, batik makers, and weavers.  These skills and talents are passed down and carefully preserved. Dancers move gracefully as their hands and eyes tell the stories of lifetimes ago.

I can’t wait to share this beautiful, vibrant place with all of you!

What makes this retreat special?

I LOVE retreats! Attending them and hosting them! And wow, there are so many great ones to choose from these days!

What makes mine different? I'm very proud to say that my retreats are perfect for ALL movement experience levels, even for those who have never done Pilates or yoga before. It also brings me immense joy to offer a community service activity at each of my retreats that benefit the local environment and residents.

Besides being a yoga and Pilates teacher, I am a physical therapist with over 25 years of experience. My favorite things are travel, adventure, wellness, great food, meeting wonderful like-minded souls, and of course healthy movement to keep our bodies and minds strong. I have heard people say that they would love to go on a retreat but don't feel comfortable because they don't have any experience with yoga or Pilates, or they have an injury and are afraid they will not be able to do the classes. Not to worry! As a Physiotherapist, I can work with you to find variations or modifications of the movements so that you can safely enjoy and benefit from the classes.

Daily Program

Check-in is at 3pm on Saturday, April 27th. We will kick off the week with a movement class in the beautiful shala- the perfect antidote for a day of traveling. We will then get to know each other over a delicious dinner at Stay Human, the Soulshine Restaurant, and set our intentions for the week with a fire ceremony.

Start your mornings with coffee, tea, and perhaps a juice from the 'maxi bar' in your Panorama Suite overlooking the rice fields.  Each day we will have a Pilates class taught by Sam and a yoga class, taught by a wonderful local instructor. The days will differ slightly, and the exact schedule will be provided closer to the retreat date. What you can plan on is a healing waters temple excursion, Balinese cooking class, cultural dinner and entertainment at a Balinese home, and a community service project.

Of course, there will be lots of free time for other activities (which can be arranged by the Soulshine staff) such as massages or other bodywork, visits to the nearby sacred monkey forest, a field trip to the elephant sanctuary, a sunrise hike to the volcano, a bike tour through the villages, shopping in Ubud, visiting a white sand beach, surfing, river rafting, scuba diving, and swimming, lounging, and enjoying the waterslide at the pool.

You can enjoy a buffet dinner each night at the Stay Human restaurant on property, or venture into Ubud to explore some of the wonderful restaurants and nightlife.

On the last day, we will do a morning Pilates or yoga class (or perhaps a combo) followed by a delicious, healthy breakfast to nourish you on your travels. Check-out is at 11am but if you have a late flight back home, you can leave your bags in the luggage storage and enjoy the property and spa.

Testimonials

Bali 2.JPG

I thoroughly enjoyed Sam's retreat … across the board the entire experience was top notch! Sam’s dedication and attention to every detail was stellar.  Each one of us felt like we had an individual experience.  The accommodations, classes, food and local excursions were wonderful. Sharing this experience with this group of amazing women is something I will never forget. Thank you Sam!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa to enter Indonesia?

Yes, depending on your nationality you may need to apply for a visa in advance or you may be eligible for a VISA on arrival. Please check this link to verify your status: http://www.balitourismboard.org/immigration.html.

Make sure that you have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date or you will be turned away from your departing city. You must also have proof of a return ticket.

STAYING UNDER 30 DAYS: If you are staying under 30 days, you can enter at no cost.

STAYING OVER 30 DAYS: If you want to stay over 30 days you must buy a Visa on Arrival for $35USD, then extend your visa before it expires on Day 30. This can be arranged at Soulshine or a local immigration agent.

What airport do I fly into?

Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is the international airpot you will be flying into. Remember you can lose up to two days with the time change and flight time, so double check your arrival date and retreat start date.

How do I get to Soulshine from the airport?

Airport transportation is included in your package. One of our trusted drivers will meet you with a Soulshine Bali sign and big welcome smile. Please contact us if you would like us to arrange this for you.  If you have any questions regarding your arrival time and transportation availability, please send us an email at info@soulshinebali.com. It's a great idea to arrange transportation well in advance if you are arriving into Bali early in the morning (1-5am). If you need assistance, a ride on a scooter or tour can be arranged.

What is the electrical current/outlet in Bali?

Bali electricity runs at 220V.  Adapters will be necessary if you are bringing any electrical items. We use the European plug (two round pins). We have adaptors for you to borrow and all our rooms have at least one American adaptor to plug directly into. You can also borrow adaptors from reception once you arrive.

We provide hairdryers in each room. Please do not bring your hairdyrer as it might blow.

Do I need vaccines?

Traveling outside of you home country can expose you to bugs your body might not be used to. The odd case of "bali belly" (diarrhea) is not uncommon. Packing an anti-diarrheal can put you at ease. It's always nice to check in with your family doctor or local travel clinic if you need any information on vaccines or medications to bring with you. We've got some great pharmacies ("Apotek" in Indonesian) and an awesome health clinic nearby Soulshine Bali in case you need anything.

What is the currency?

The currency here is called Rupiah. You can bring your own currency over and convert it, or use ATM machines to withdraw Indonesian currency.  ATM withdrawal fees vary bank to bank, so make sure you check in with yours to get all the info. Many restaurants and stores take credit cards. Don't forget to let your bank or credit card company know you are traveling.

What do I pack?

Because we are located near the equator, Bali tends to have fairly stable weather with the ‘wet’ season occurring between November and March and the ‘dry’ season between May and September. The sun still shines bright during the wet season. It is generally always hot with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 80s and up. We recommend light clothing that breathes but can also protect you from the sun. Being near the equator, our sun is hot and can burn much faster than what you might be used to. Sleeves or a light jacket is also helpful in the evenings if you decide to take a scooter ride. We've got great natural bug spray and SPF 25 sunscreen, but don't forget to pack your own if you have your favorites.
